To-Do List For a Lovely Spring Garden

The sun is shinning, the rain is starting, you and hear birds singing outside you window every morning - it's officially spring! That means it's time for your garden to make a comeback from the cold, harsh weather of winter! Below you will find our to-do list for a lovely spring garden!

1. Start by cleaning out the garden. It's time to remove any leaves, left over snow, weeds, etc! It's also a good time to pull out to your gardening tools - your soil will likely need some care!

2. Revitalize and invest in your soil. You'll likely need to add some moisture back into your soil since it's probably dried out, and packed down after these last few weeks of snow! Add in organic materials like compost or manure. You also might need to ad din more fertilizer to increase the health of the soil!

3. Prune those plants! Any plants that did survive winter will need to be pruned, so they'll grow healthy and fresh again one we're in spring weather. With New England's unpredictable weather, maybe wait until late April to do so (in case the ground freezes again, or we get another snow storm!)

4. Plant away! Some of our favorite spring plants are: Pansies, Lettuce, Peas, Arugula, Redbuds, Lilacs and Tulips!

5. Prepare for the rest of spring! Mid-spring, think on some new flower beds, start to plant your hardy annuals, and consider adding some mulch! For late spring, prune any flowering shrubs!

Happy Gardening!

Boston #1 For St. Patrick's Day Celebrations!

Happy St. Patrick's Day to you all!

It should be of no surprise to all those that live in and around Boston that it's ranked #1 in best cities to celebrate St. Patrick's Day! For those of you that find this surprising, you should also know, that the holiday was actually founded in this very city in 1737 with New York's parade following in 1762! With parades, pub crawls and traditional feasts, there's no shortage of things to do on March 17th every year!

A big thanks to our friends over at Trulia who put together the above fact sheet on the holiday -- see the original post here.

May the luck of the Irish be with you on this St. Patrick's Day,
